Barcelona, as a purely Mediterranean city, is widely enjoyable in summer: when the sun rays illuminate its mountains, the streets are full of life and beaches become more desirable than ever. But Barcelona is much more than sun and beach: each of its corners displays a particular charm in the light of the months of June, July and August…. how can we enjoy Barcelona in summer?
Festivals: display of music, dance and theater
Many cities take advantage of the vacation months to have a short break in their cultural agenda. It is not the case of the Catalan capital. To a wide network of theaters and concert halls, Barcelona add the supply of festivals that provide even more things to see and do during these months.
To the most known festivals such as Sonar, Primavera Sound and Cruïlla, we can also add the Jardins de Pedralbes and the nearby Vida in Vilanova i la Geltru, Portaferrisa in Sant Feliu de Guixols and Cap Roig in Calella de Palafrugell… but there are also other festivals of general interest such as the Grec, where concerts are not the only amusement, but also the classic and at the same time innovative theatre.
Costa Brava, Costa Dorada and the best beaches of Barcelona in Summer
Just 5 minutes from your apartment in Miró, you can reach Sants station, where you can take a train, the R1 line, a stunning stretch of Catalan coastline from the Costa Dorada to the beginning of the deservedly known for its magnificent beaches, Costa Brava.
A perfect plan for you! In about an hour you can choose a lot of desirable destinations surrounding Barcelona such as Sitges, Sant Pol de Mar or Blanes and be back to Barcelona when the sunset arrives, enjoying it from a terrace of the Tibidabo, from the viewpoint of the three crosses of Park Güell or the best balcony overlooking the Mediterranean, the castle of Montjuïc.
Mountains and the green places that we can have
From the famous parks of Barcelona as the Park Güell or the Citadel Park, or the huge green lung that supposed the Collserola Park, to nearby natural parks of Montseny or Garraf and the swilling magical mountain of Montserrat, the offer of green ares is wide and varied. This is definitely your placeif your body asks you for some climbing or breathing fresh air.
From the capital it won’t be difficult to hire any services of hiking to enjoy the best places by bicycle, horse or on foot with local guides, who will not hesitate to recommend you the best places to enjoy a good Catalan barbecue where you cannot miss the sausages as the botifarra or the salami of Vic (fuet) accompanied by good slices dipped in tomatoes of the highest quality. Without any doubt the best prize after a day of physical activity.
But we can also enjoy other beautiful places in the surrounding areas of Barcelona. We are talking about monumental cities such as Tarragona and its Roman heritage or Girona and its charming Jewish quarter, just one hour from our apartment in Entenza. But certainly we do not need to get out of Barcelona to enjoy the best cultural heritage with a perspective of the past, present and future. From doing the route of modernism to enjoy without hardly any queues the most visited monument in Spain, the Sagrada Familia, through icon museums like the Picasso Museum, Barça (a totally experience for football lovers) or spend all the afternoon in Montjuïc visiting the Olympic ring, the national art museum (MNAC), the Miró foundation and the castle to finish down at sunset and watch one of the most admired shows of Barcelona, the Magic Fountain… Barcelona has more than enough plans to offer and we would probably need at least a week to enjoy it, especially in summer when the weather is so enjoyable.
